How to make a cool candle out of a Coke bottle

Everyone has one at home: the "emergency lighting" just in case the power goes out. Yes, we're talking about candles. Now, candles come in all different shapes and colors — some intricate, others simply functional. With this amazing trick, you'll be able to create a special kind of candle that looks like a Coke bottle.

You'll need:

  • 1 empty Coke bottle
  • 2 crayons in black and purple
  • white candles
  • 1 nut
  • 1 toothpick
  • 1 wick

Here's how:

First, empty out the Coke bottle.

Next you need to make the wax. Here it's important that you use a color neutral wax, so it's best to opt for white ones. They will be colored by crayons later.

Tip: To remove the wick from the candles, just break them in two and pull the wick from the shorter piece.

To create the classic Coke color, it's best to use black and purple crayons in the mix.

Add the white candles and the crayons to a bowl and heat them in a water bath until the wax is completely melted. To do this, pour some water into a pot and heat it up. Then turn the heat down to medium and then add the bowl with the candles and the crayons into the pot so that the bowl is exposed to the warmth of the boiling water at the bottom. This way, you can melt the ingredients safely and evenly. By stirring, the color evens out and the wax melts.

Tip: Depending on the size of the Coke bottle, you might have to use more than one crayon for coloring.

Now we turn our attention to the wick for our Coke candle: here you'll use normal yarn or a proper candle wick. Cut a piece of yarn off that is a bit longer than the height of your Coke bottle. Knot the nut at this end and the toothpick goes at the other end.

Lower the yarn into the empty Coke bottle so that the nut is at the bottom and the toothpick lies flat over the opening of the bottle.

The only thing that's missing is the wax: Fill the bottle completely with hot wax and wait until it hardens.

Once everything has cooled and hardened, you have to cut the plastic bottle around it and carefully remove it from your new candle.

You can use this trick with any PET bottle. You just have to pay attention to the colors of the crayons you use, of course.
