The uses and usefulness of denatured alcohol

Denatured alcohol has a lot of useful properties and can be used in many ways around the house. You probably have no idea all the different things you can do with it.

pin1

Denatured alcohol and rubbing alcohol are the same substance, but denatured alcohol has additional substances mixed in to change its odor and composition so people don't try to drink it.

Here is a list of what you can do with it...

You can get rid of:

  • Bed bugs

These little pests hide inside your mattress. Spray a mix of 50% water and 50% denatured alcohol on your sheets. Later, you'll find the dead bugs on your mattress. Not the nicest thing, but at least they're gone!

Don't forget to ventilate the room during and after using denatured alcohol. Even if it's diluted, it's still dangerous to inhale it.

  • Stains

Stains on clothes or on your couch will disappear quickly when rubbed with denatured alcohol. It also works on paint stains and nail polish!

pin3

It can also get rid of limescale, rust and silicone stains!

You can even use it to disinfect a lot of things and make them shine:

  • steel sinks
  • clothing irons
  • fridges, stoves and other household appliances

pin4

  • mirrors and glass (windows)
  • kitchen and bathroom cupboards
  • ceramic induction stovetops
  • bathtubs and toilets

pin5

  • All kinds of metals: steel, silverware, bronze, chrome, gold or silver jewelry and, of course, all stainless steel surfaces.

Keep in mind the following precautions when using denatured alcohol:

Denatured alcohol is flammable. If you smoke, don't do it anywhere near where this product is being used or stored. Keep it away from sources of heat and do not use it as a fire-starter because there is a high risk of it exploding.

pin6

- Make sure the bottle is closed after use.

- Keep it out of the reach of children.

- Always use denatured alcohol in a ventilated room.

This product is a good way to avoid buying other cleaning products that can be harmful to the environment. But because of the additives used to make it unfit for consumption, remember: don't drink it!
