12 housework tips for stressed or lazy people

Due to increasingly busy schedules, many of us don't have the time to do the housework. There are also those who'll admit to simply being too lazy for some household chores. That's why we've come up with some clever tricks that'll make the most annoying and time-consuming tasks around the house less of a nuisance. Try them out for yourself...

1. Keeping the oven clean

Don't you just hate cleaning the oven after baking a cake or cooking pizza? One easy way to avoid this unenviable task is to place aluminum foil or baking parchment at the bottom of the oven when it's in use. This should capture any dripping dough mix or cheese before it can bake into the oven's surface.

2. Keeping the shower screen free of water marks

This is a great tip for people with shower screens and doors. Simply wipe a teaspoon of lemon oil on the glass every two weeks. This ensures the water beads off the glass and keeps the shower screen free of marks.

3. Cleaning the drain

Simply pour boiling water down the drain once a week. It's a natural drain cleaner that should prevent blockages.

4. From top to bottom

It's important to have a logical system when doing the housework — always clean from top to bottom! If you do it the other way round, you'll probably have to clean twice. That's because dust or any other dirt may fall to the floor while you're cleaning.

5. Brooms at the ready

Here's another way you could be going wrong. Avoid stowing your brooms with the bristles on the floor, as this can damage them and make sweeping more of a chore. It's best to hang your brooms up or simply stow them with the bristles facing upward.

6. Lost & found

Instead of throwing things away if you can't find a use for them, keep this stuff in an old box. This could be a lost board game piece or a screw. Having a lost & found box will keep you from having to buy new stuff that you had previously lost.

7. Wax paper in the fridge

Cleaning the fridge also scores quite highly when it comes to least favorite chores. To avoid this task completely, simply place sheets of wax paper in each fridge compartment before filling it with food. When something leaks or leaves a mark, all you have to do is replace the paper instead of scrubbing.

8. Cleaning the microwave

This is where vinegar does the trick. All you'll need is half a cup of water for the mixture. Add white vinegar to the water and place the cup in the microwave for two minutes at the highest heat setting. Simply wipe away any dirt once it's done.

9. Cleaning the blender

This is the perfect trick for cleaning your blender. After use, fill the blender with warm water and dish soap before switching it on for 10 seconds. Wash it out using hot water and the job is done.

10. Keeping your dishwasher clean

To avoid any nasty surprises, you should run the dishwasher with vinegar essence in the tab compartment and baking soda on the floor from time to time. This trick will also extend the dishwasher's service life.

11. Eliminating odors

Potpourri is a good way to keep bad odors out of the house. As well as emanating a fresh scent, the potpourri also adds a wonderful decorative touch to any living spaces.

12. Preventing mold

Removing mold or — in the worst cases — entire tiles has to be one of the worst jobs around the house. That's why surfaces which come into contact with water on a daily basis should always be wiped dry after use. This is the best way to prevent mold from forming and will save you needless expense further down the line.

Hopefully, this list will help you save time when you get to your household chores. You'll then have more time to enjoy the finer things in life!
