3 Spooky DIY Halloween Costumes

October is finally upon us, Halloween is right around the corner, and we couldn't be more excited! Obviously, now's the time to start planning Halloween costumes. You can't just show up as a ghost every year, there's got to be some creativity to what you choose to wear! But if you need a little inspiration, look no further, because we've come up with 3 super spooky, super easy, and super unique DIY Halloween costumes. Conveniently, you're going to need old clothes to make these, which means you also get to finally clean out your closet! Happy Halloween!

1. Split Body

You'll Need:

  • shirt
  • pants
  • newspaper
  • cardboard
  • glue
  • toilet paper
  • red paint
  • paintbrush

Here's How:

1.1 Cut a hole in the back of a shirt.

1.2 From the back, cut 2 slits in the knee area of a pair of pants and fill it with crumpled newspaper.

1.3 Cut a piece of cardboard into an oval shape so it fits into the pants opening, and put it over the crumpled newspaper.

1.4 Spread glue over the cardboard and stick crumpled toilet paper on it.

1.5 Paint the toilet paper red.

1.6 Pull the shirt over your head (through the hole you cut in it), put your arms into the sleeves, and put your legs through the lower pant legs. When you bend a little diagonally, it will look like you're divided into 2 halves.

TIP: This works best if you use pants and a shirt that are at least 2 sizes too big.

2. Head In A Backpack

You'll Need:

  • hoodie
  • balloon
  • scary mask
  • newspaper
  • gloves
  • safety pins
  • duct tape
  • T-shirt
  • backpack

Here's How:

2.1 Blow up a balloon and pull a scary mask over it. Put the balloon with the mask into the hood of a hoodie sweater. To make sure the balloon holds, tie a knot in the two cords of the hoodie.

2.2 Fill the hoodie with crumpled newspaper.

2.3 Also fill a pair of gloves with newspaper and stick them in the sleeves. Use safety pins to fix the gloves to the hoodie.

2.4 Roll up the sweater from below and close it with duct tape.

2.5 Now pull a T-shirt over the hoodie and make a cut in the back.

2.6 Put your head through the cut in the T-shirt, turn the hoodie onto your back, and pull an open backpack over your head.

3. Headless Mad Scientist

You'll Need:

  • lab coat
  • T-shirt
  • coat hanger
  • hot glue
  • cardboard
  • newspaper
  • rubber gloves
  • wadding
  • double-sided tape
  • duct tape
  • red scarf or red fabric
  • backpack

Here's How:

3.1 Lay a lab coat open in front of you. Put a T-shirt on a coat hanger and push it so far up that you can see the bottom of the hanger. Spread hot glue on the hanger and glue a rectangular piece of cardboard to it.

3.2 Pull the T-shirt over the cardboard and fill it with crumpled newspaper. Also fill the sleeves of the lab coat with newspaper.

3.3 Fill the rubber gloves with wadding, put double-sided tape around the gloves, and stick them to the insides of the lab coat sleeves.

3.4 Put a scarf or piece of fabric into the collar of the shirt and the lab coat.

3.5 Glue the shirt filled with newspaper to the piece of cardboard and pull a backpack over the cardboard.

3.6 Glue the backpack to the cardboard so that nothing slips, but don't touch the straps! Button up the lab coat about halfway and then put the whole piece on your back with the straps. Button up the coat further until just below your head.
