4 Fashionable DIY Tricks To Transform Old Clothes

When you look in the closet, does it always feel like you have nothing to wear? Even dressers overflowing with clothes can get boring after a while. You find yourself constantly staring at the same old things, embarrassing even yourself with the out-of-date trends you were into last year. What were you thinking? Old clothes you never wear anymore also pile up and take up space – too much space. Luckily, we’ve found a great solution to both of those problems! We'll show you 4 DIY tricks that will bring new life into the dead duds hiding in the back of your closet. You’ll be amazed at how easily you can transform simple clothes into new, fashionable pieces!

1. Upcycled Skirt & Top

You'll Need:

  • 1 men's button-down shirt
  • elastic band
  • scissors
  • sewing kit

Here's How:

1.1 Cut the collar off of the button-down shirt and cut the shirt horizontally under the armpits.

1.2 Sew an elastic band into the top of the main part of the shirt.

1.3 If you want a cleaner look, sew a hem onto the cut edges on the upper part of the shirt so that the edges are straight. Now you have a whole new chic outfit made of just one shirt!

2. Lace Cutout

You'll Need

  • T-shirt
  • cardboard stencil
  • chalk
  • hem tape
  • lace
  • iron

Here's How:

2.1 Make a stencil by cutting the design of your choice out of a piece of cardboard. Place the stencil on the T-shirt and trace the stencil. It’s best to use chalk for the outline because it comes out easily in the wash.

2.2 Cut the traced design out of the T-shirt. Turn the shirt inside out and place hem tape around the edges of the design.

2.3 Put the lace on top, cover everything with an extra piece of fabric, and iron the lace accent in-place. Flip the T-shirt over and your pretty lace design is ready to go!

3. Shoulder Accent

You'll Need:

  • T-shirt
  • chalk
  • scissors

Here's How:

3.1 Fold the T-shirt in half lengthwise and cut off the shoulders and sleeves.

3.2 Using chalk again, draw a triangle on the upper back area of the T-shirt and cut it out.

3.3 Cut a strip out of the triangle that you removed and use it to tie a small bow on one shoulder. Your summery top, complete with a cute shoulder accent, is finished!

4. Wrap-Around Crop Top

You'll Need:

  • long-sleeve shirt
  • scissors

Here's How:

4.1 Cut the long-sleeve shirt so that it opens vertically in the front. Next, cut a rectangle out of the back near the bottom of the shirt.

4.2 Cut the rectangle from the back into 4 strips of the same size. Tie 2 of the strips together to form one long strip. Repeat, so that you’re left with 2 long strips.

4.3 Cut a hole in the bottom front corner of the cut shirt and tie one of the long strips of tied-together fabric to it.

4.4 Repeat on the other side of the shirt. Now all you have to do is wrap the crop top around your body and tie it together however you’d like! This is the perfect top for warm, sunny days.

Thanks to these 4 simple tricks, you’ll always have something fashionable and unique to wear from here on out. Start giving those boring old clothes a makeover and transform your wardrobe in no time!
