5 Sweet DIY Valentine's Day Crafts

Sure... flowers, chocolates, and all the other cliched Valentine's Day gifts are pretty nice, but they've got nothing on gifts that you actually made yourself. To really leave a lasting impression and show your significant other how much they mean to you, you'll have to get your hands dirty and get down to the DIY nuts and bolts of it all. The more unique your gift, the better. Thankfully, we've got a bunch of extremely cute DIY Valentine's Day crafts for you to try your hand at. You can't go wrong with any of these gifts, but if you really want to go all-out this year, go ahead and make all 5!

1. Split Heart Keychain

You'll Need:

  • paper
  • pen
  • parchment paper
  • hot glue
  • acrylic paint
  • scissors
  • needle
  • lighter
  • 2 key chains

Here's How:

1.1 Draw a heart on a piece of paper, place parchment paper over it, and fill in the outline of the heart with hot glue.

1.2 Wait for the hot glue to dry, then carefully peel the heart off the parchment paper.

1.3 Paint the heart.

1.4 Allow the acrylic paint to dry and then cut the heart into 2 jagged halves.

1.5 Using a lighter, heat a needle tip and carefully poke a hole in each heart half.

1.6 Attach each half to a key chain and you can both carry a piece of the other's heart with you – how romantic!

2. Hidden Love Note Card

You'll Need:

  • paper
  • glitter paper
  • glue

Here's How:

2.1 Cut a rectangle with a rounded side out of a piece of paper.

2.2 From a different colored piece of paper, cut out another rectangle with a rounded side (it should be a little bit bigger than the other one you cut out).

2.3 Place the paper rectangles on top of each other so that the rounded sides face each other.

2.4 Cut 2 jagged heart halves out of glitter paper and glue them to the ends of the upper piece of paper.

2.5 Glue everything to a plain card.

2.6 You can pull back the strip to reveal a window and bring together the 2 heart halves. Write a short love note in the open space – your other half will be delighted!

3. Cherished Moment Magnets

You'll Need:

  • crown caps
  • paint
  • photos
  • glue
  • magnets

Here's How:

3.1 Paint the outside of the crown caps and let the paint dry.

3.2 Cut a bunch of photos so they fit exactly inside the crown caps and then glue a photo inside each crown cap.

3.3 Glue a magnet to each crown cap – and immortalize your love right on your fridge!

4. Yarn Heart Keychain

You'll Need:

  • cardboard
  • yarn
  • key chain

Here's How:

4.1 Cut a heart out of a piece of cardboard.

4.2 Wrap yarn around the heart.

4.3 Attach a key chain to the yarn heart and give it to your loved one.

5. Sugar Hearts

You'll Need:

  • cane sugar
  • food coloring
  • water
  • ice cube tray with heart-shaped molds

Here's How:

5.1 Mix some cane sugar with water and a few drops of food coloring (the consistency should be slightly slushy) and pour the mixture into the ice cube tray.

5.2 Wait for the hearts to dry, then put them in a pretty glass candy jar. The lucky recipient can use the sugar hearts to sweeten their tea and will think of you with every sip they take.
