5 Ways To Upcycle Old Furniture And Household Fixtures

Making your house really feel like a home starts with your furniture and household fixtures. That being said, not everyone has tons of money to spend on original pieces of furniture or home accents. Most people turn to places like IKEA to get the basics, and even though they tend to do the trick and get your house looking sharp, places like IKEA don't necessarily leave your home feeling personalized or cozy. But that doesn't have to be the case! These 5 upcycling ideas for furniture basics and household fixtures will show you how to turn those run-of-the-mill items in your home into something special. Whether you're trying to salvage some old, broken items in your house or you're trying to brighten up a room, these 5 ideas are here to save the day – and to save you some money!

  • old picture frame
  • string of fairy lights
  • hot glue gun
  • mini clothespins
  • photos

Here's How:

2.1 If you find yourself with a picture frame that's missing the glass panel or back, we have the perfect solution! Use a hot glue gun to glue a string of fairy lights into the frame in a zig-zag pattern, then attach your photos to it with mini clothespins or clips.

  • cork
  • hot glue gun
  • elastic bands
  • screw hooks

Here's How:

3.1 To make a convenient place to keep your keys with a message board attached, take the glass panel out of a picture frame. Trace the frame onto a large piece of cork and cut it out. Use a hot glue gun to glue the piece of cork to the front of the back panel of the picture frame.

3.2 Attach a few elastic bands to the cork board, gluing them to the back of the back panel with a hot glue gun.

3.3 Put the back panel back inside the picture frame and screw some screw hooks into the bottom of it.
