6 Festive DIY Christmas Cards And Gift Tags

There's no better time of year to show your loved ones how much you care than during the holidays, and sending family and friends Christmas cards is one of the many holiday traditions that helps you do just that! Writing personalized messages or sending a holiday photo card are both great ways to show you care, but designing and making your Christmas cards yourself is an even better way to spread the joy – plus it can be tons of fun! We've come up with 6 great ideas for DIY Christmas cards that will get you into the holiday spirit and have you and your loved ones feeling merry and bright. This year, send your season's greetings in style!

1. Photo Ornament Christmas Card

You'll Need:

  • glass or mug
  • card stock
  • pencil
  • scissors
  • hot glue gun
  • transparent sheet
  • glitter
  • photo
  • craft glue
  • wrapping paper
  • ribbon or bow
  • markers

Here's How:

1.1 Fold a piece of card stock in half in order to make the card. Trace a glass or mug with a pencil close to the top of the card, then cut the circle out.

1.2 Cut a slightly larger circle out of a transparent sheet and use a hot glue gun to glue it to the inside of the card so it covers the exposed hole in the card stock.

1.3 Sprinkle glitter on the transparent sheet and trim a photo so that it's a the same size and shape as the hole in the card. Squirt craft glue around the perimeter of the photo and glue it facedown on top of the glitter.

1.4 Cut out a circular piece of wrapping paper and glue it to the inside of the card to cover up the back of the photo.

1.5 Decorate the card with a ribbon or bow and write your Christmas greetings underneath the ornament!

2. DIY Gift Tags

You'll Need:

  • card stock or blank gift tags
  • needle & thread 
  • pen

Here's How:

2.1 Cut small rectangles out of card stock or start with blank gift tags. Embroider stars, hearts, or other festive designs on your blank gift tags with a needle & thread, then add a message or name underneath. Secure your DIY gift tags to the gifts you're giving, and you'll add a personalized touch to each and every gift!

3. Photo Gift Christmas Card

You'll Need:

  • photo
  • glue stick
  • red card stock
  • red ribbon
  • bow
  • green card stock

Here's How:

3.1 Glue a photo onto a piece of red card stock.

3.2 Glue a rectangular strip of red card stock a bit longer than the width of the photo to its top edge, then glue a decorative bow in the center of the rectangular strip.

3.3 Fold the green card stock in half to make a card, then glue 3 of its edges together, leaving the top edge open so that you can slide the photo inside later.

3.4 Glue red ribbon onto 1 side of the green card stock so that it looks like a present.  

3.5 Slide the photo into the top of the green gift, and your personalized photo gift Christmas card is complete!

4. Festive Christmas Tree Card

You'll Need:

  • blank Christmas card
  • colorful baking cups in different sizes 
  • craft glue

Here's How:

4.1 Fold the baking cups in half twice, then glue them onto the blank Christmas card, starting from the largest baking cup at the bottom and layering them all the way up to the top.

4.2 Decorate the Christmas tree with a star, a trunk, some ornaments, or a message, and your easy DIY Christmas tree card is ready to go!

5. Red-Nosed Reindeer Christmas Card

You'll Need:

  • sponge
  • brown & red acrylic paint
  • blank card
  • pencil 
  • pen

Here's How:

5.1 Put a small amount of brown acrylic paint on a sponge and press your finger into the paint. Press your paint-covered finger down on the card several times to make brown fingerprints.

5.2 Put some red acrylic paint on the eraser of a pencil and use it to stamp a nose onto bottom of the fingerprints on the card.

5.3 Use a pencil or pen to draw antlers and eyes on the fingerprints so that they look like tiny, little reindeer.

6. Pop-Up Christmas Card

You'll Need:

  • pink card stock
  • red card stock
  • green card stock
  • scissors
  • craft glue
  • glitter snowflakes
  • ribbon

Here's How:

6.1 Fold the pink card stock in half and draw 3 rectangles on the folded edge, as shown in the photo below.

6.2 Use scissors to cut along the edges of the 3 rectangles, leaving the folded edge intact.

6.3 Fold the card stock up in the opposite direction, so that the rectangles stand up and pop out.

6.4 Glue the pink card stock onto the red card stock, making sure not to glue the area where you cut out the rectangles.

6.5 Finish decorating the card with more red card stock, a Christmas tree made out of green card stock, glitter snowflakes, and ribbon.
