6 Spine-Tingling Halloween Decorations

It's time to get spooky! Halloween is one of the most fun fall holidays to celebrate, between dressing up in scary costumes,  trick-or-treating, and watching jack-o'-lanterns light up the streets. You also get a chance to decorate your home in ways that will give your friends and family goosebumps! If you're planning on throwing a Halloween party, or if you just want to decorate your home, these 6 DIY Halloween decoration ideas are here to help. From ghoulish ghosts to maniacal mummies, these cheap & easy decoration ideas will get you into the Halloween spirit and scare you senseless. They're sure to haunt the halls of your home in the most boo-tiful way!

1. Ghoulish Ghosts

You'll Need:

  • leaves (e.g. maple or sycamore leaves)
  • white spray paint
  • paintbrush
  • black acrylic paint

Here's How:

1.1 Collect some fallen leaves outside, then color them on both sides with white spray paint. Let the spray paint dry, then paint eyes and a mouth on them with black acrylic paint. Use these simple, spooky ghosts to decorate your table or shelves!

2. Maniacal Mummy Pillow

You'll Need:

  • black felt
  • white felt
  • throw pillow
  • gauze fabric
  • glue
  • scissors
  • pen
  • chalk
  • glass
  • quarter 

Here's How:

2.1 To make the eyes of the mummy, place a glass upside down on the black felt. Draw 2 equally sized circles by tracing the glass with chalk and cut the circles out.

2.2 Draw 2 small circles on the white felt by tracing a quarter and cut the circles out.

2.3 Glue the black felt circles onto a throw pillow to make the eyes of the mummy, then glue the small white circles inside the black ones. Loosely wrap gauze fabric around the throw pillow and glue it in place. Cut some scars or other accents out of the black felt and glue them onto your new mummy pillow.

3. Mini Jack-O'-Lantern

You'll Need:

  • clementines
  • permanent marker

Here's How:

3.1 To make some cute & easy decorations that look like mini pumpkins, use a permanent marker to draw the face of the jack-o'-lantern on some clementines. Decorate the table, dresser, or windowsill with these scary little fruits!

4. Floating Ghosts

You'll Need:

  • 1 jar lid
  • hot glue gun
  • 1 cork
  • 1 wooden skewer
  • 1 styrofoam ball
  • gauze fabric
  • craft glue
  • water
  • paintbrush
  • permanent marker 
  • 1 LED tea light

Here's How:

4.1 Flip the lid of a jar lid over so that the bottom is facing up, then use a hot glue gun to glue a cork to it. Break a wooden skewer into 3 segments, making sure 2 are of equal size and 1 is slightly larger. Glue the 2 shorter pieces to the larger one, as if you were gluing arms to a stick figure. Insert the large center skewer into the cork.

4.2 Stick the styrofoam ball onto the top of the wooden skewer stand and drape the gauze fabric over it.

4.3 Stir together some craft glue and water and brush the mixture over the gauze fabric to make it stiff.

4.4 Once the glue has dried, draw 2 eyes on the ghost with a permanent marker. Remove the jar lid, cork, and wooden skewers, then position the ghost over an LED tea light.

5. Jarring Jar of Spiders 

You'll Need:

  • large glass jar
  • fiber fill
  • battery-operated fairy lights
  • plastic spiders

Here's How:

5.1 Making a spooky jar full of spider couldn't be easier! Fill a large jar with fiber fill and position a string of battery-operated fairy lights inside. Place some plastic spiders in the cotton, and your spooky jar full of spiders is ready!

6. Haunting Group Of  Ghosts

You'll Need:

  • white yarn
  • small cutting board
  • googly eyes
  • glue

Here's How:

6.1 Wrap some white yarn around a small cutting board. Carefully slide the cutting board out from the middle and tie the loops of yarn together in the center.

6.2 Cut open both ends of the bundle of yarn and sweep all of the strands in the same direction.

6.3 Glue 2 googly eyes to the yarn ghost and hang a whole group on a piece of string to suspend them.
