Who says picture frames are just for pictures? Not us! Picture frames of every size and shape can be found in the homes of most people, but if you're only using them to actually frame photos, then you're not realizing their true potential. Here are 6 picture-perfect ways to turn ordinary picture frames into so much more.

1. Pencil Holder

You'll Need:

  • 1 old shirt with a breast pocket
  • 1 picture frame
  • scissors

Here's How:

1.1 Take a shirt you no longer need and place a picture frame with the back removed over the breast pocket. Trace around the outer part of the picture frame with a pencil.

1.2 Cut along the outline.

1.3 Place the cut shirt section in the picture frame and now you have handy pencil holder!

2. Illuminated Photo Cube

You'll Need:

  • 4 picture frames
  • 1 set of battery-operated string lights
  • hot glue gun
  • square piece of cardboard

Here's How:

2.1 Remove the backs from the picture frames. Place hot glue on the long sides of the frames and glue all four frames together to form a cube. Let the glue dry before moving on to the next step.

2.2. Turn the photo cube upside down and glue a piece of cardboard to the bottom with hot glue. Wait for the glue to dry.

2.3 Turn the cube right side up, place a set of string lights inside the compartment, and light em' up!

3. Étagère

You'll Need:

  • 2 picture frames
  • 2 plywood boards
  • 1 candle holder
  • super glue

Here's How:

3.1 Take two different sized picture frames and remove the backs. Cut the plywood boards so that they are the same size as the picture frames, and then attach them to the frames.

3.2 Super glue the candle holder to the middle of the smaller frame and let the glue dry.

3.3 Super glue the larger frame to the other side of the candle holder, and once the glue dries, you'll have yourself a great new kitchen piece!

4. Jewelry Hanger

You'll Need:

  • 1 large wooden picture frame
  • about 8 screw hooks

Here's How:

4.1. Remove the back from the picture frame. Place the frame with the back side up in front of you and screw the screw hooks into the wood at even intervals.

4.2 Replace the back of the picture frame and hang your brand new jewelry organizer on the wall for all to see!

5. Custom Chalkboard

You'll Need:

  • 1 picture frame
  • chalk paint
  • chalk

Here's How:

5.1 Remove the back of the picture frame, paint the entire thing with chalk paint, and wait for the paint to dry. 

5.2 Put the picture frame back together and have fun coming up wit creative new messages on your very own blackboard!

6. Photo Wall

You'll Need:

  • 1 large picture frame
  • 1 cord string
  • thumbtacks
  • clothespins

Here's How:

6.1 Remove the back of the picture frame and place the frame with the back side up in front of you. Cut off a long piece of cord and tie a knot on the ends. Push a thumbtack through the middle of the first knot and then push it into the inner wall of the long side of the picture frame.

6.2 Arrange the cord in a zigzag style across the picture frame, using the thumbtacks to hold it in place on the sides. Once you reach the opposite end, stick a thumbtack through the end knot and push it into the opposite corner from where you started. Turn the frame over, hang it on the wall, and decorate it with all your favorite mementos.
