6 Rustic Plant Holders Made From Natural Wood

1. Tree Stump Succulent Garden

You'll Need:

  • thick slice of a tree trunk
  • cordless drill + spade bit
  • potting soil
  • succulents

Here's How:

1.1 Use the cordless drill and spade bit to drill large, round holes of different sizes into a thick slice of a tree trunk. Fill the holes with potting soil and plant the succulents inside. Decorate your patio or balcony with this cute succulent garden to give it some woodsy flair!

2. Light Bulb Terrarium

You'll Need:

  • light bulb
  • saw
  • pliers
  • screwdriver
  • 4 wooden discs
  • hot glue gun
  • tweezers
  • pebbles
  • moss & small plants
  • piece of a tree branch

Here's How:

2.1 Saw the point of electrical contact off of a light bulb, then use a screwdriver and pliers to remove the inside elements. You should be left with just the metal cap and glass bulb.

2.2 Use a hot glue gun to glue together the 4 wooden discs, then glue the light bulb on top.

2.3 Use tweezers and a funnel to fill the light bulb with pebbles and small plants. Add some small decorations, charms, or sea shells to the mini terrarium. Water the plants with a few drops of water and seal your light bulb terrarium with a piece of tree branch.

3. Tree Trunk Mug Planter 

You'll Need:

  • tree trunk
  • cordless drill + hole saw attachment
  • hot glue gun
  • thick rope
  • potting soil
  • succulents

Here's How:

3.1 Use a hole saw attachment for the drill and drill a large hole in the tree trunk.

3.2 Glue the thick rope to the side of the piece of the tree trunk to make the mug handle.

3.3 Fill the tree trunk with potting soil and plant a succulent or another small plant inside.

4. Natural Wood Plant Hanger

You'll Need:

  • thin tree branches, cut to size
  • pruning shears
  • hot glue gun
  • palm cutting or air plant

Here's How:

4.1 Use pruning shears to cut the tree branches and, for a cleaner look, strip off the bark. To make 1 plant hanger, cut 8 branches to the same length and 4 branches so that they're slightly longer.

4.2 Use a hot glue gun to glue the branches into the shape of a diamond, starting by making a square out of the 4 larger branches and building off of that.

4.3 Place a palm cutting or air plant in the plant hanger and hang it from the ceiling.

5. Rustic Hanging Lantern

You'll Need:

  • saw
  • tree trunk
  • cordless drill + spade bit
  • tree branch
  • screw hook
  • mason jar
  • twine or yarn
  • tealight

Here's How:

5.1 Cut the log in half lengthwise, place the flat side of the tree trunk on your work surface, and use the drill with a spade bit to drill a hole on the left-hand side of the wood.

5.2 Secure a tree branch inside the hole and screw a screw hook into the branch. 

5.3 Tie some yarn or twine around a large mason jar, place a tealight inside, and hang the lantern on the screw hook attached to the tree branch. 

6. Tree Trunk Vase

You'll Need:

  • hollowed-out slice of a tree trunk
  • cordless drill + spade bit
  • wood file
  • vase
  • flowers

Here's How:

6.1 Use a cordless drill with a spade bit to drill a hole through the top of a hollowed-out slice of a tree trunk. 

6.2 Using a wood file, sand down the inside of the trunk to make the surface flat.

6.3 Place the vase inside the hollowed-out trunk and arrange the flowers through the hole in the top. This piece makes quite the statement, both indoors and out!
