They're our bread and butter, and we're about to feed you even more tantalizing time-savers with these 7 cooking hacks. Spend less time on prep and more time on chowing down!

1. Toast Trick

You'll Need:

  • oven
  • oven rack
  • baking tray

Here's How:

If you want to toast more than 2 slices of bread at a time, you can just use the oven as a toaster! Position the oven rack just above the baking tray in the oven and insert the slices of bread you're toasting next to each other in the slots of the oven rack. Turn on the oven, and no one will have to wait for their turn to use the toaster anymore!

2. Separate Eggs

You'll Need:

  • garlic

Here's How:

Rub your fingers on a peeled clove of garlic and crack an egg into a bowl. When you touch the egg yolk with your fingers, it won't break! Now you can easily separate the egg yolk from the egg white!

3. Grate Potatoes Safely

You'll Need:

  • 2 chopsticks

Here's How:

To protect your hands and avoid getting cut when you grate potatoes, insert 2 chopsticks into the potato and use them as a handle. Now your fingers will be out of harm's way!

4. Cut Even Cake Layers

You'll Need:

  • toothpicks
  • unflavored dental floss
  • ruler

Here's How:

Hold a ruler next to your baked cake and measure the height. Insert equally-spaced toothpicks around the circumference of the cake halfway up its side. Rest a large piece of unflavored dental floss on top of the toothpicks positioned around the cake and pull the floss towards you. Now your cake will be divided into 2 perfectly even layers!

5. Cut Equal Slices

You'll Need:

  • knife

Here's How:

Use a large knife to make 1 large cut across the center of the cake. Next, make 3 equally-spaced cuts in the cake diagonally, cutting from left to right. For the final set of cuts, make 3 more equally-spaced cuts, this time from right to left. Make sure to start from the same point as the first set of diagonal cuts whenever possible so that the slices come to a point.

6. Pour Without Spilling

You'll Need:

  • wooden spoon

Here's How:

Put the handle of a clean wooden spoon into the neck of the bottle you'd like to pour your drink into. Press the glass containing your drink against the wooden spoon and start pouring. Now your drink will flow straight from the glass into the bottle without making a mess!

7. Cut Shoestring Fries

You'll Need:

  • vegetable peeler

Here's How:

Most vegetable peelers have a small hook on one side. To make evenly-cut shoestring fries, press the vegetable peeler firmly into the potato and drag the hook across its surface. Now your french fries will fry more evenly and look super professional!
