7 Ways To Grow Fruits And Vegetables At Home

These days, most people know how to plant avocado seeds and end up with a nice big avocado plant. 1. Watermelon Plant

You'll Need:

  • watermelon
  • paper towel
  • toothpick
  • spray bottle
  • plastic wrap
  • rubber band
  • flower pot
  • potting soil

Here's How:

1.1 Line a bowl or glass container with a folded paper towel and cut the watermelon into large pieces. Use a toothpick to pick out the watermelon's seeds and place them in the bowl or glass container on top of the paper towel.

1.2 Place another folded paper towel on top of the seeds, fill a spray bottle with water, and spray the watermelon seeds.

1.3 Cover the container or bowl with plastic wrap, secure it with a rubber band, and poke holes in the top with a toothpick. Let the seeds soak in the sealed container for 4 days.

1.4 After 4 days, plant the watermelon seeds in a flower pot filled with potting soil and leave them in a warm, bright spot in your home. After just a few days, the seeds will begin to sprout!

2. Kiwi Plant

You'll Need:

  • kiwi
  • paper towels
  • food storage container
  • potting soil
  • spray bottle
  • plastic wrap
  • rubber band
  • toothpick
  • flower pot

Here's How:

2.1 Scoop the fruit of the kiwi out of its skin and spoon it onto a paper towel, then let the fruit dry.

2.2 Once everything has dried, transfer the kiwi seeds to a food storage container filled with potting soil and spray the seeds with water. Cover the container with plastic wrap, secure it with a rubber band, and poke holes in the top with a toothpick. Leave the plastic container in a sunny spot for 3 weeks and let the seeds sprout.

2.3 Once you see small plants starting to poke out of the soil, transfer the plant to a flower pot filled with potting soil. In order for your kiwi plant to produce fruit, both a male and female plant need to cross pollinate with one another, so make sure to keep at least 2 kiwi plants next to each other.

3. Cucumber Plant

You'll Need:

  • cucumber
  • glass
  • planter
  • potting soil

Here's How:

3.1 Cut a cucumber in half lengthwise, scoop out the seeds, and transfer the seeds to a large glass filled with water. Stir the seeds around in the glass rapidly to create a vortex, and the good seeds will sink to the bottom.

3.2 Plant the seeds that sank in a planter filled with potting soil and water them regularly. Soon your cucumbers will sprout and start to grow!

4. Ginger Plant

You'll Need:

  • ginger root
  • glass container or glass
  • flower pot
  • potting soil

Here's How:

4.1 Place the ginger root in a glass container filled with water and let it soak overnight.

4.2 The following day, remove the ginger root from the glass container and plant it in a flower pot filled with potting soil. Place the flower pot in a warm, shaded place and water it regularly. In the next few weeks, once you see the bud popping out of the soil, transfer the pot to a bright, sunny spot and watch it grow!

5. Pumpkin Plant

You'll Need:

  • pumpkin
  • whisk
  • paper towels
  • flower pot
  • potting soil

Here's How:

5.1 Cut the top off of the pumpkin and use a whisk to remove some of the pulp and seeds from inside.

5.2 Wash the pulp off of the seeds and place them on a folded paper towel to dry.

5.3 Plant the pumpkin seeds in a flower pot filled with potting soil and water them. After about 4 weeks, your pumpkin plant will start to grow!

6. Sweet Potato Plant

You'll Need:

  • sweet potato
  • toothpicks 
  • glass
  • flower pot
  • soil

Here's How:

6.1 Insert 4 toothpicks into the sweet potato so that they're spaced evenly from one another.

6.2 Fill a glass with water and prop the sweet potato up on the rim of the glass so that it's partially submerged in water, making sure that only the lower portion of the sweet potato is sitting in the water.

6.3 Once the sweet potato has sprouted some plants, cut off one of the sprouts and place it in water.

6.4 Once the plant has grown some roots, plant it in a flower pot filled with potting soil.

7. Onion Plants

You'll Need:

  • 2 large cardboard egg cartons
  • plastic wrap
  • spray bottle
  • onions

Here's How:

7.1 Wrap one of the large egg cartons in plastic wrap

7.2 Place the second egg carton on top of the one wrapped in plastic wrap and spray it with water, making it damp.

7.3 Cut the top off of the onions and place them on the damp egg carton with the exposed side facing up.

7.4 Spray the onions with water and place them on a wooden pallet or grate and let them sprout!

Break out your leftover potting soil and grab those gardening gloves, because before you know it you'll have a whole garden's worth of freshly sprouted fruits and vegetables to take care of!
