1. Waterproof Shoes

You'll Need:

  • candle wax
  • hair dryer

Here's How:

1.1 Rub candle wax on your shoes and melt the wax using a hair dryer, then your shoes will be waterproof. What a simple way to keep your feet dry!

2. DIY Mini Heater

You'll Need:

  • ceramic container
  • 3 tea lights
  • terra cotta flower pot

Here's How:

2.1 Place the tea lights in the ceramic container and light them, then place a terra cotta flower pot over the ceramic container. The flower pot will store the heat that comes from the candles and it will heat up your room!

3. Anti-Skid Bike Tires

You'll Need:

  • zip ties
  • scissors

Here's How:

3.1 If you need a little bit of extra traction on your bike tires, tie some evenly spaced zip ties around both wheels. Cut off the excess plastic ends and you'll be able to ride your bike safely in the winter weather.

4. Zipper Extension

You'll Need:

  • key ring

Here's How:

4.1 Sometimes it's hard to zip up your jacket when you're wearing all of those winter layers! To make things easier, attach a key ring to your zipper to make a small extension for it. Now you can zip up your jacket even when you're wearing thick gloves!

5. Winter Cell Phone Case

You'll Need:

  • old wallet
  • hot glue gun
  • screen protector
  • thermal foil
  • cell phone case

Here's How:

5.1 To make an insulated case for your smart phone, cut out the inner compartments of an old zip-up wallet, then cut a large rectangle out of 1 side where the cell phone display will go.

5.2 Use a hot glue gun to glue the screen protector inside the wallet, sealing off the window you cut out.

5.3 Cut out a piece of thermal foil so that it lines the entire wallet, making sure the window for the phone display remains uncovered. Use a hot glue gun to glue the thermal foil inside the wallet.

5.4 Glue a cell phone case inside the wallet, put your cell phone in the case, and close the wallet. Now your cell phone will be able to survive low temperatures all winter long!

6. Drying Rack For Wet Shoes

You'll Need:

  • baking tray
  • stones

Here's How:

6.1 Place a few stones on a baking tray, then position your dirty, wet shoes on top. Now your shoes will dry more quickly, plus all of the dirt and muck will get collected on the baking tray.

  • reusable water bottle
  • hot water
  • sock
