8 Cleaning Tips For Your Electronics

When it comes time for spring cleaning, a few things in your home always tend to get overlooked. There are a certain number of items that never get cleaned, not for lack of want, but maybe because you're not sure how to go about it. Electronics, for example, can be tricky, especially because you're probably wondering how can you clean them without damaging them. But we've got you covered! Here are our top 8 tips & tricks for cleaning electronics.

1. Dusty Keyboard

You'll Need:

  • tape

Here's How:

A lot of dust, dirt, and crumbs tend to accumulate in the crevices between the keys on your computer keyboard. To fix this, cut off a piece of wide tape and pull it through the individual key rows. All the debris will stick to the tape and pull it right out of there.

2. Smudgy Phone Screen

You'll Need:

  • 1 part rubbing alcohol
  • 3 parts water
  • spray bottle
  • cloth

Here's How:

Add the rubbing alcohol and water to a spray bottle, shake well, and spray some of the solution on a cloth. Wipe your phone screen with the moistened cloth and those oily fingerprints and greasy smudges will be gone in a jiffy.

3. Dirty Camera Lens

You'll Need:

  • plastic wrap
  • vacuum

Here's How:

If you prefer to kick it old-school with a digital camera, but find that it's not taking pictures like it used to, wrap the plastic tube of a vacuum cleaner in plastic wrap, slide it over the camera lens, and turn on the vacuum. This will suck the dirt right out of the camera so that you can go back to being the next Annie Leibovitz.

4. Dirty Cables

You'll Need:

  • eraser

Here's How:

It couldn't be simpler – if you want to erase some dirt, grab an eraser! Rub an eraser over your dirty cables to get rid of that dark and dingy look.

5. Dirty Earbuds

You'll Need:

  • toothbrush

Here's How:

Remove the silicone pads from your earbuds and brush any debris off the speaker bit with an old toothbrush.

6. Greasy Remote Control

You'll Need:

  • plastic wrap

Here's How:

Whether you're willing to admit it or not, we all have our couch potato moments. Who among us hasn't plunged a full fist into a greasy bag of potato chips and then grabbed the remote? You're know you're not going to give up the fatty foods during TV time, so just wrap the clicker in plastic wrap so you don't have to worry about getting it dirty or having to clean it afterwards.

7. Dirty Smartphone

You'll Need:

  • lint roller

Here's How:

Given the importance we place on smartphones these days, and considering that we never have them more than an arm's length away, people tend to see their smartphones as an extension of themselves. And because no one wants to give the impression that they're dirty and messy, keep your phone clean with a simple roll of a lint brush. This will pull the dirt right off so you can keep your favorite electronic nice and sparkly.

8. Dirty Smartphone Holes & Ports

You'll Need:

  • interdental brush

Here's How:

Don't you hate it when the ports and holes on your phone get dirty? A clogged charging port or headphone jack can be especially worrisome, as it could affect the entire performance of your phone. To nip that fear right in the bud, grab an interdental brush and swab out the dirt inside.

Clean your electronics once and you'll never look back! It's pretty shocking to see how dirty and grimy our favorite products can get, but it's great to know that there's a easy solution for cleaning each and every one of them.
