8 Great Time-Savers For The Kitchen

Efficiency in the kitchen can be a huge time-saver, but learning new techniques can sometimes be intimidating. We’ve got a secret, though: You don’t need to be a pro chef to prepare things quickly and professionally. Some of the techniques we're about to teach you are so easy, you’ll wonder why you didn’t think of them before. These 8 kitchen hacks will put your cooking into overdrive, which means you’ll have more time to relax and enjoy the delicious meal you just prepared!

1. Easy Poached Egg

You'll Need:

  • plastic wrap
  • wooden skewer

Here's How:

Put a pot of water on the stove and stretch plastic wrap over the top of it. Crack an egg directly onto the plastic wrap and make a little pouch for the egg with the plastic wrap, sealing it on top. Stick a wooden skewer through the knotted plastic wrap and secure it. Lay the skewer, complete with the egg in the plastic wrap, on top of the pot so that the package containing the egg is partially submerged in water. The egg white will solidify very quickly, but the yolk will still be still nice and liquidy for the perfect poached egg.

2. Simplified Eggplant Peeling

You'll Need:

  • BBQ fork
  • culinary torch

Here's How:

Skewer the eggplant with a BBQ fork and heat it thoroughly with a culinary torch. Put the eggplant in a bowl of water and it can be peeled in no time!

3. Oven-Free Mini Cakes

You'll Need:

  • aluminum foil
  • wooden block
  • batter
  • flat iron

Here's How:

No oven? No problem! Make a small, rectangular pan out of aluminum foil using a block of wood as the mold. Pour some batter into the mold and place the filled pan on the heating plate of a flat iron. Once the mini cake has risen and baked all the way through, remove it from the mold and sprinkle powdered sugar on top.

4. Tin Can Grater

You'll Need:

  • empty tin can
  • nail
  • hammer

Here's How:

Use a nail to hammer holes into the bottom of an empty tin can, starting from the inside so that the sharp edges are on the outside. Now you're ready to grate your veggies!

5. Even Cheese Slices

You'll Need:

  • peeler

Here's How:

Instead of slicing cheese with a knife, just use a peeler. The advantage? All of the cheese slices will end up with an even thickness!

6. Fast Lettuce Chopping

You'll Need:

  • pizza cutter

Here's How:

If you don't have a sharp knife at hand, cut your lettuce with a pizza cutter. It glides right through, as smoothly as a knife!

7. Simple Orange Peeling

You'll Need:

  • syringe
  • water

Here's How:

Fill a syringe with water and then inject the orange with it. The orange will be much easier to peel afterwards.

8. Quick 'Baked' Potatoes

You'll Need:

  • 4 toothpicks
  • microwave

Here's How:

Stick 4 toothpicks into a potato and place it, balanced on the toothpicks, in the microwave for 15 minutes. There's no need for an oven!

Not only will these quick cooking tips save you time, but they're also incredibly simple and convenient. You'll be impressed with how quickly you'll be able to whip up meals from now on!
