9 Clever Home Hacks That Will Simplify Your Life

Home improvements are great, but there's nothing more annoying than when they take way longer than expected or, even worse, when they go terribly wrong. That's why life hacks for the home are so important! Is your sink constantly clogged? Do you always hit your thumb when using a hammer? Do you get really annoyed about messy traces left behind on your walls? We've got you covered! These tips & tricks will amaze you with their simplicity – and more importantly, they'll leave you feeling accomplished and stress-free.

1. Spray Paint Without A Mess

You'll Need:

  • cardboard box
  • box cutter
  • twine
  • pen

Here's How:

Place a cardboard box upright in front of you and use a box cutter to make a slit in the top. Tie a piece of twine to the object you want to spray paint and thread the other end through the hole in the cardboard box. Tie the loose end to a pen and twist the twine around the pen until the object you want to spray paint is suspended midway inside of the box. Now you can spray paint the object without making a mess!

2. Remove Glue Residue

You'll Need:

  • hair dryer

Here's How:

To remove stickers, tape, and other adhesives from household surfaces without leaving residue, all you need is a hair dryer. Heat the sticky item and it will come right off.

3. Hammer In Nails Without Getting Hurt

You'll Need:

  • pliers

Here's How:

Hold the nail with pliers and you won't hit your fingers while hammering.

4. Drill Without The Clean-Up

You'll Need:

  • plastic bottle
  • box cutter

Here's How:

Cut the bottom off an empty plastic bottle and put the bottom part of the plastic bottle on the drill bit, with the open side facing up. Now the plastic container will catch all of the debris that comes out of the ceiling.

5. Tighten Loose Screws

You'll Need:

  • match

Here's How:

Screws can sometimes come loose and start sticking out of the wall. If this is the case, just put a match inside of the wall hole, then tighten the screw into the wall again. The match fills the hole just enough so that the screw will stay in place.

6. Clear A Clogged Drain

You'll Need:

  • empty plastic bottle

Here's How:

Clogged drain? Fill a plastic bottle halfway with water, then turn the bottle upside down, pressing water into the drain. Use the bottle like you would use a pair of bellows – so squeeze hard! The water pressure will eventually clear out the stoppage.

7. Hang Up Pictures With A Soda Tab

You'll Need:

  • soda can tab

Here's How:

If you break the hook on the back of your picture frame, your knight in shining armor is nothing more than a can of soda. Break off the tab that is normally used to open the can, then attach it to the back of the frame with a screw.

8. Remove Drywall Anchors From The Wall

You'll Need:

  • corkscrew

Here's How:

Some drywall anchors simply refuse to come out of the wall, but a little resistance isn't the end of the world. To get that stubborn thing out, just use a corkscrew! Screw it into the anchor and then use the lever of the corkscrew to remove it.

9. Remove Nails Without Damaging The Wall

You'll Need:

  • sponge

Here's How:

Unfortunately, using a hammer to pull nails out of the wall can leave some pretty unsightly dirt and pressure marks. To avoid this, simply hold a sponge under the hammer, pressed up against the surface the nail is stuck in. Now you won't damage the wall while you're removing nails.
