It's really quite amazing to see how many places on earth have become completely abandoned leaving them with a mysterious, haunted quality that is almost palpable. Some of them are monumental constructions that took years to complete, only to be deserted just a few years later under strange and absurd circumstances. Here are some of the more prominent examples of places that have this unique mix of fascination and spine-chilling spookiness...
1. "Chicken Church"
In 1990, a man had a divine inspiration and built this very unusual church in Indonesia. Most people still refer to it as the "chicken church" but it's actually supposed to be a dove. The building was abandoned after 10 years due to high maintenance costs.
