Simply gorgeous: A glowing branch made from a string of lights

Almost everyone has a string of lights at home. Normally these lights spend most of the year in a box with all the other decorations and are only put up at Christmas time. But don't you think that's a bit of a waste? Why not use them all year round for some mood lighting. This trick will show you the perfect way to do it...

You'll need:

  • string of battery-powered LED lights (here's an example)
  • white and pink serviettes
  • tree branch
  • dark tape
  • vase
  • decorative sand
  • twist ties
  • glue
  • scissors

Here's how:

First remove all the small twigs from the branch but be sure to leave a "fork" formation.

Now wrap the string of LED lights around the branch. Start at the bottom and work your way up.

Fasten the string of lights using the twist ties.

Now it's time to make the flowers. Cut the serviette in four equally-sized squares.

Then fold each square in the middle...

...and fold it again on a diagonal from the center.

Now wrap the rest around to form something that looks like an ice cream cone.

Use the scissors to cut the top into a round shape.

When you fold it out, you'll see that it looks just like a little blossom. Perfect!

Now you can glue the plies of the serviette together.

Poke a hole in the middle of the blossom using the scissors. You'll need one blossom for each LED light.

Then you can glue the blossoms onto each light.

Now it's really starting to take shape.

Use the dark tape to cover the light cable.

With the cable hidden, it looks like a normal branch full of cherry blossoms. Now that's clever!

Now for the final step: Pour some of the decorative sand into the vase and put the branch and the battery pack into it. Now fill the vase with more decorative sand, but make sure that the switch on the battery pack is still accessible.

And there you go! You now have a beautifully lit-up cherry blossom branch.
