Clean your mattress using only two ingredients

While most of us regularly wash and change our bedding, it can be quite tricky keeping the mattress clean. I mean, you can't just stick the entire mattress in the washer whenever it gets dirty.

Don't worry though — we have the solution. If you follow the three steps in this guide, you can get your mattress nice and clean again without having to move it an inch. With a bit of luck, this baking powder trick should get rid of any dirt, moisture, dust mites, and unpleasant odors from your mattress...

You'll need:

  • 1 cup baking powder
  • 4-5 drops of essential oil (e.g. lavender oil)
  • 1 large Mason jar
  • sieve
  • vacuum cleaner

Tip: the amounts specified above apply to a single mattress, so you'll need more baking powder and oil for larger mattresses.

First, add the baking powder and essential oil to the Mason jar. Lavender oil works particularly well as it leaves a pleasant aroma that'll help to relax you.

Shake the Mason jar vigorously so that the powder mixes well with the oil. Next, sprinkle the mixture onto your mattress using the sieve.

Here comes the "hardest" part: the waiting. Leave the powder mix to do its thing for about one hour before carefully vacuuming it up. It's best to use the smallest attachment on the vacuum so that you can catch all of the baking powder.

Finished!

This is a very clever hack for thoroughly cleaning your mattress in next to no time. You don't even need to use chemical products.

Here are two more tricks to finish. Do the above about once a month to keep your mattress nice and fresh. You can also use this method on other pieces of furniture, such as the couch. Give it a try!
