Make your own galaxy shoes with a little alcohol and some markers
Maybe you feel like the whole universe is treating you like a doormat. Time to turn the tables.
Or you need an extra lift in your step — some star power, some galactic wind beneath your wings... Paint the universe onto your shoes and say goodbye to the blues.
You'll need:
- 1 pair white canvas sneakers
- waterproof markers
- pipette
- rubbing alcohol
- white fabric paint
Here's how:
Choose some colors that go well together (and would blend well together if mixed). Don't forget to use waterproof markers so that there aren't any nasty surprises next time it rains!
Using the markers, cover the shoes with colors following the pattern in the photos here.
Now fill your pipette with rubbing alcohol and sprinkle it over the shoes.
The alcohol causes the colors to blur. This way they blend together nicely, with softer segues between them.
As soon as the the shoes have completely dried, you get to put the icing on the cake: painting stars with the white textile paint.
You'll be dancing on the Milky Way:

This is such a fun DIY activity. And for kids, getting to watch the colors blend together is like a science project all on its own! Plus, the final result is guaranteed to be a unique pair of shoes, sure to surprise wherever you go.
And you don't always have to paint a whole galaxy. How about a gorgeous sunrise, with yellows, oranges, and reds, or a wild rainforest in hues of green? There's an idea out there for everyone just waiting for the right pair of shoes.
