Make your own mini pallet of succulents

There's nothing like a bit of DIY for achieving that "made it myself" feeling. And when it comes to DIY, a wooden pallet is one of the most versatile things you can use to start a project.

Of course, DIY projects can take up a fair amount of space, but if you're after something a bit more compact, this miniature pallet designed by Laura LeBoutillier could be just the thing.

You'll need:

Here's how:

Cut off the rounded ends of the popsicle sticks, making sure they are all the same length.

Using the super glue, glue them together to form a palette. Lay two of the sticks flat, parallel to each other, and put some glue on both ends of both sticks. Take two more sticks and stand them on their edges. Now glue them to the first two sticks so that all four form a square.

Keeping them equally spaced, glue five more sticks across this frame to create one side of the pallet.

Turn the pallet over and glue one stick down as a crosspiece along the middle of all five sticks.

Succulent plants are very hardy and from these cuttings the plants will take root in the pallet. It'll be up to you to trim the roots and leaves now and then, and regularly spray them with some water. The moss will act like a sponge to provide water for the plants and the varnish will protect the wood.

This makes a cute decoration that you can use to brighten up your desk, or maybe give to a friend as a gift. For the same effect without having to cut living plants, you could always use fakes which also require less maintenance. It looks adorable, so why not give it a try?
