How To Make A Christmas Star From Paper Bags

Decorations are absolutely essential for creating the right atmosphere during the holiday season – they put you in a festive mood and transform your home into a Christmas wonderland. When it's cold and gray out, a cheerful interior is like a balm for the weary soul, so find out how to make your very own no muss, no fuss Christmas star in just a few quick steps!

You'll Need:

  • 7 equally-sized paper bags
  • cardboard for a template
  • pencil
  • scissors
  • double-sided tape
  • glue stick
  • 2 little strips of thin cardboard (approx. 1 inch x 4 inches)
  • stapler
  • cotton thread

Here's How:

Cut out this shape from your piece of cardboard. It should be the same size as the paper bags.

Place the template on the first paper bag and trace it on the bag with a pencil.

Use the scissors to cut exactly along the lines you traced. You can even cut several bags at once if you're careful!

Now connect all the bags together: stick a strip of tape along the flat bottom of the bag and a short strip from that line up toward the point.

Place the next bag on top of the one you just taped and repeat the procedure till all the bags are in a neat pile, taped together.

Take the glue stick and make a good stripe with it in the middle from the flat end up to the point.

Glue one of the cardboard strips on here. Now do the same thing on the bottom end of the pile of taped-together bags.

When the glue has dried, open up the star. Reach into the outermost bags with both hands and pull them around together.

Now staple the two together — if you slip the cotton string in under the staple, it will hold perfectly as well. Tie a knot in the string so you can hang the star somewhere lovely.

And here you are: your paper-bag Christmas star.

There's no limit to what you can do with these: use white paper as we did, or colored, or of course draw on the bags yourself. One thing is certain: if you hang these in your window, there won't be any doubt that the holidays have begun! And once your friends are finished being astounded, you can show them the trick too!
