Fun craft: Use pistachio shells to make beautiful decorative lotus flowers
Pistachios are one of the most delicious snacks ever. The best thing about the little seeds is that they not only keep your stomach busy but also your fingers nimble: often they have to be removed from their half-open shell first. And when the bag is empty and the pistachios are all gone, the only thing left over is a huge pile of shells. But instead of throwing them away, you can create awesome crafts with them. Here we'll show you an example of how you can make beautiful flowers out of pistachio shells.
You'll need:
- a lot of pistachio shells
- paint (acrylics are best)
- glitter
- glue (e.g. hot glue)
- magnets (to keep the decoration on your fridge)
- cardboard
Here's how:
Place the pistachio shells in a well-sealed bag — a freezer bag is best in this case. Put a dash of acrylic paint and a tablespoon of water into the bag.

Then close the bag and knead it well.

Spread the wet pistachio shells on a piece of paper and sprinkle glitter over them. Then let them dry.

While the shells are still drying, take a piece of cardboard and cut a circle out of it with a diameter of about two inches.

Now glue the magnet on one side of the circle.

When the shells are dry, we can start with the flower. Glue four shells into the center of the round cardboard. The shells in our example are yellow but of course you can choose any color you like.

Arrange the other shells around the inner ones in a circle. And now a beautiful flower is done.

When cardboard circle is completely covered with shells and you can't see the bottom of it anymore, you're finished. And just like that you have a beautiful lotus flower made of pistachio shells. With the magnet on the back, you can put the flower on your refrigerator or any other magnetic surface as decoration. Alternatively you can leave off the magnet and use the flowers as ornamentation for birthday presents or other occasions. This way you can create homemade decorative ideas from pistachio shells. There are no bounds to what your imagination can create!
