4 Great DIY Ideas Using Yarn

As the following neat DIY tricks prove, a little piece of yarn can go a long way!

1. Bracelet

You'll need:

  • a round piece of cardboard
  • thread in 7 different colors

Here's how:

1.1 Cut a circle out of the cardboard that's about the same size as your hand. At equal distances from each other, make 8 incisions around the edge of the cardboard and use a pencil to make a hole in its center.

1.2 Next, you'll need the 7 pieces of thread; they'll need to be long enough to go around your wrist. Tie a knot at one end of the threads and guide the open end through the hole in the middle.

1.3 Insert one piece of thread into each of the incisions.

From the remaining empty incision, count four along anti-clockwise and put that piece of thread in the free incision.

Repeat this process until the threads have been braided their entire length.

2. Coaster

2.1 As you can see in the video, braid the Chenille yarn by wrapping it around your index and middle finger twice. Next, pull the lower loop over the finger.

2.2 Roll up and glue the finished braid into a coaster.

2.3 A longer braid will result in a larger coaster at the end.

3. Necklace

You'll need:

  • a toilet paper roll
  • 4 popsicle sticks
  • tape
  • textile yarn

Here's how:

3.1 To braid the yarn, you'll need to build a small tool first. To do so, attach the popsicle sticks to the toilet paper roll using tape as shown below.

3.2 The trick is to guide the yarn through the toilet paper roll first and then wrap it around the popsicle sticks in two rows. Next, each lower loop is pulled over the upper one. Check out the video to get a better idea.

3.3 To finish, attach the finished braid to a beautiful necklace.

4. Bobble Rug
